The Transport Accident Commission (TAC) funds VicRoads L2P learner driver mentor program assists learners aged 16-21 years of age, without access to a supervising driver or vehicle, to gain the 120 hours of driving experience required to apply for a probationary licence.
Young people are matched with fully licensed volunteer mentors and use a sponsored vehicle to gain supervised driving experience.
Target population
Young people aged 16-21 years who meet the criteria.
Note: L2P is not available to overseas students.
Eligibility criteria
Prospective participants need to be:
- Aged 16-21 years of age (and in some cases up to 23 years old).
- Australian citizens or hold a permanent residency (including refugees and new arrivals).
- Hold a current Victorian learner’s permit.
- Without access to either a vehicle, a supervising driver, or both.
- Medically fit to drive.
- Not already enrolled in another L2P program (eg in another town).
Referral pathway
L2P accepts self- referrals as well as referrals from any agency working with an eligible young person.
